“Sigh”

We finally arrive at the end of chapter 2! This chapter has been months in the making and I am really looking forward to moving ahead with chapter 3. I am 99% positive that there are only two chapters and an epilogue left to the story of Hipster Picnic. I don’t want to say too much because it would ruin all the fun.

I wanted to just mention, before moving on from this page, that it was composed loosely to follow the fibonacci sequence/golden ratio.

This is also known as the rule of thirds. You can use it in composition to create a dynamically balanced final piece. If you want to know more about how to use the rule of thirds, and its precedent for comic composition, check out Bizhan Khodabandeh’a article “Panel Layout: The Golden Ratio” on MakingComics.com.

I usually like working, loosely, with the golden ratio so that I can check myself before publishing certain pieces to see why they feel a little off. Often, as artists, we can see a piece and know it isn’t working for some reason. All the details are there, its a beautiful drawing, but it feels off. Unbalanced. Usually when these compositional issues arise you need to check your fundamentals and review the principles of art.

So, yeah, I am pretty happy with this piece. What do you think?
