Fine. Go.

That moment that you just give up. Not in the meta-sense of giving up on life or whatever. I am talking about the moment in an argument where you just want it done. You are defeated.  It is a split second where you are face to face with escalation or de-escalation and you aren’t sure what to do next, because there really isn’t anything else to do.

You have made your point and now it is time to concede defeat, because there is no way you are getting what you want. Not in this moment. You realize that there’s no point to anything you’re saying, and in fact you’ve probably been spitting out angry gibberish in all of the preceding moments in a way to stave off concession of the skirmish.

Doesn’t matter though, because in the end it was all worth it.  It was worth you making your point known and fighting for what you believe in. You were the one who was, in the end, right. It doesn’t matter what you lose in the process of that pursuit.

You were right, and that’s all that matters.

Right?

But you can’t win, so now is the time to throw in the towel and get some distance from everything. This is why boxing matches have bells. We all need a break. Now is time for you and your opponent to retire to your corners and reflect. She’ll be back, and when she comes she’ll have realized just how right you are. Give her time to cool off. You fought well.

Right?
